Home Support Worker/Personal Care Attendant Program in St. John’s

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

As the Newfoundland/Labrador and Canadian population ages, the need for personal care workers is increasing at an incredible rate. A career in personal care will prepare you to provide support to a wide range of clients and families that need assistance.  This might include people who are elderly, disabled, or recovering from a serious illness or injury. Your job will be to assist individuals with their daily routines, including preparing meals and feeding, maintaining personal needs, running errands, monitoring medication and recovery, and informal counselling support. Studying to become a Home Support Worker/Personal Care Attendant at Eastern Academy will quickly provide you with the skills required to meet the standards expected by employers. Our St. John’s-based Home Support Worker/Personal Care Attendant Program involves:

  • 10-Week Practicum
  • First Aid/CPR Level C Training
  • National Food Safety Training Program
  • Program Length: 30 Weeks

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12, Adult High School Diploma, or
  • High School Equivalency (GED)
  • Mature applicants with a minimum of Grade 10 may be considered for admission after completing a high school equivalency test
  • Conduct Certificate
  • Vulnerable Sector search
  • Applicants must be mentally and physically prepared to complete the requirements of this career
  • Access to transportation that is acceptable to their clinical agency
  • Complete a standardized health form and proof of immunization
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English at a minimum of Level 8
