The Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker Program is designed to teach students the necessary practical skills and theory to work with adolescents, children and families with challenging needs such as social, emotional, behavioural and mental health concerns. Students will identify the importance of collaborating with colleagues within their field, including educators, medical and social worker professionals, correctional staff and community partners. Networking with these professionals will assist them when implementing appropriate prevention/intervention strategies that inspire change.

As the number of children and teenagers dealing with abuse, poverty, and mental issues grows, the need for qualified child and youth care workers in the St John’s area increases. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Eastern Academy’s Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker Program trains you for rewarding careers as a Youth Worker, Family Support Worker, or Child/Youth Care Worker!

Work settings include treatment centers, group homes, youth centres, family support programs, community-based and foster care programs and schools. Many facilities operate 24/7, and shift work is common in these environments.

ARTICULATION AGREEMENT

Mount St. Vincent University: Eastern Academy has an Articulation Agreement with Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, NS. This agreement provides Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker graduates advanced standing towards MSVU’s Bachelor of Arts (Child and Youth Studies) degree; Eastern Academy graduates will receive a block transfer of credits towards this degree program. MSVU offers the only university-level Child and Youth study program in Atlantic Canada; this degree program can be completed via online learning.

Yorkville University: Eastern Academy has an Articulation Agreement with Yorkville University in New Brunswick that automatically awards graduates of the Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker program 36 block transfer credits toward completion of Yorkville University’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. To be eligible for admission and the awarding of this block of transfer credits, students must have graduated with a minimum grade of 70% in each course in the Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker program

Graduates of the Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker program who wish to continue to pursue Yorkville University’s BBA degree can complete all required courses online.
