Academy Canada Staff Member To Be Inducted Into “Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame”

Academy Canada is pleased to announce that our Webmaster, Jack Barrett, is one of the inductees for the 2021 and 2022 “Newfoundland and Labrador” Sports Hall of Fame to be held at a later date.

Jack competed for Nova Scotia at the 1994 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Swimming, and the 1998, 2002, and 2006 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Powerlifting.

He would also compete for Newfoundland and Labrador at the 2010 and 2014 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games in Powerlifting.

In his six Special Olympics Canada Summer Games appearances, he won a total of 25 medals, including 22 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze.

Jack also competed for Canada at the 1999, 2007, 2011, and 2015 Special Olympics World Games, capturing a total of 15 medals, including 13 Gold and 2 Silver.

In addition to Jack’s Special Olympics Canada and Special Olympics World Games medal haul, he also won many awards, including 2000 and 2015 Special Olympics Canada “Male Athlete of the Year”, 2000 and 2008 Sport Nova Scotia “Individual Male Athlete of the Year” runner-up, 2011 City of Corner Brook “Achievement in Community Excellence – Male Athlete of the Year”, “2015 Dr. Frank Hayden Athlete Lifetime Achievement Award”, and a 2015 Lou Marsh Trophy nominee.

Jack was previously inducted into the “Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame” in 2019, and “Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame” in 2020 and 2021.
